Vanquish is back, Aston Martin has introduced a stunning new model that promises
“an unprecedented combination of comfort, supercar performance, and refined dynamics”. It will also be exclusive, with fewer than 1,000 units being built annually.
Described as “the most powerful flagship in its 111-year history”, the Vanquish is powered by a 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 engine that produces 824 bhp and 1,000Nm of torque. It is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, sending power to the rear wheels via an electronically controlled limited-slip differential.
This enables the car to accelerate from 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 210mph. This is “the highest top speed for a series production Aston Martin to date”.
Performance extends beyond the engine bay, with the Vanquish featuring an aluminum chassis that benefits from a 75 percent increase in lateral stiffness compared to the DBS 770 Ultimate. The wheelbase grows by 80mm, while the model gains a revised suspension with Bilstein DTX dampers. Aston Martin says this allows for “a wider spread between driving modes”, so the car can be comfortable or sporty, depending on your mood.
The Vanquish gets thicker anti-roll bars, a recalibrated electric power steering system, and a new electronic stability control system. The latter promises to avoid “sudden interventions, predicting optimal grip levels through sophisticated algorithms, while also responding to momentary vehicle instability”.
When the going gets a little rough, you can count on a carbon ceramic braking system that features 16.1-inch discs at the front and 14.2-inch discs at the rear. Compared to its predecessor, Aston Martin says the system offers increased braking performance and reduced fade at temperatures of up to 800 C.
The designers took a bit of a risk and decided to mix classic design elements with modern details. The results are interesting and the company says it gives the car “an assertive design character and greater road presence.”
The front end is fairly conventional as we can see a wide grille flanked by Matrix LED headlights and a pronounced diffuser. They are joined by a sculpted hood with Formula 1-inspired “heat vents” to help cool the V12 engine.
Moving to the rear, there’s a streamlined carbon fiber body and aerodynamic sidelines, while the distance between the front axle and the driver’s door has been increased by 80mm. There are also mirrors with their distinctive carbon fiber design and a triangular carbon fiber air outlet. We can also see flat-mounted door handles and wide shoulders to accommodate the wide 21-inch wheels wrapped in custom Pirelli P Zero tires.
At the rear, the design changes are radical, with a new design featuring a large carbon fiber panel that Aston Martin calls the shield, which extends completely between the two ends of the rear trunk, and on either side of it comes a new design for the taillights with seven three-dimensional “LED light blades”. Below, there is a large diffuser and a stainless steel exhaust system with four huge exhaust outlets. If the latter seems a bit old-fashioned, you can opt for a titanium exhaust that weighs (10.5 kg) in weight.
The Vanquish features sports seats that hug the body of the driver and passenger and features a familiar cabin that echoes the Vantage and DB12, with a completely new design for the controls and the central screen with carbon fiber and wood trim. As a result, there is a 10.25-inch digital information screen and a 10.25-inch infotainment system.
Other highlights include 16-way electric front seats, as well as Alcantara and semi-aniline leather upholstery. The model also features a 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system as well as optional wood trim.
